Leading in Our Way: Reflections from the Women’s Leadership Series
In December, Ilitaqsiniq brought together 20 women from across Nunavut. They came from different communities, backgrounds, and lived experiences, but shared a common purpose: to support, uplift, and inspire one another as leaders.
Leading in Our Way: A Women’s Leadership Series was intentionally designed to be restorative and empowering. At Ilitaqsiniq, we do not see leadership as a title or position to be earned. Instead, this gathering invited participants to explore it as a deeply personal journey—one that begins within and grows through connection to others.

Throughout the week, participants were invited to reflect on their knowledge and lived experiences. They then learned new tips, strategies, and tools to help them imagine a path forward for themselves and their communities.
One participant captured the spirit of the gathering: “The discussions were very meaningful and inspiring. The after-session workshops gave us opportunities to relax and bond with each other. It was an amazing experience, and I am so glad that I participated.”
At the heart of this series was a truth we already know: women have always been leaders.
Women in Nunavut carry their communities, workplaces, and families much like they nurture their children in their amauti. The countless acts of care, responsibility, and service they provide are the pillars supporting our societal structures. At Ilitaqsiniq, we recognize and value this vital work.
Leading in Our Way created space to honour that strength, reconnect with cultural teachings, and build supporting connections across the North. We are grateful to every participant who shared their time, stories, and energy—and we look forward to building on this work as the series continues.

About Leading In Our Way: A Women’s Leadership Series
Recent initiatives at Ilitaqsiniq, including the Inuit Wellness Summits and the Pilimmaksaijuliriniq Project, have reinforced what we see every day: when we invest in people, we strengthen communities. Supporting women’s leadership is essential to long-term community well-being across Nunavut.
Ilitaqsiniq initiated the design and development of Leading In Our Way: A Women’s Leadership Series to support value-driven leadership in women. Guided by Inuit Maligait and by Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, the workshop brings together and uplift exceptional women who are passionate, capable, and essential to our communities.
We gratefully acknowledge the contributions of the Annauma Community Foundation that made this workshop possible. Qujannamiik for helping us create space for women to learn, reflect, and lead in their own way.
Thank you!
